What is Delta 8 THC?
Cannabinoids are chemical compounds secreted from cannabis plants as resin. They have the ability to interact with our body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Delta 8 THC is a cannabinoid that occurs in much smaller concentrations than most other cannabinoids.

Delta 8 is an isomer that forms as Delta-9 THC ages and oxidizes. This process increases the stability of the Δ8 molecular structure so that it does not degrade as easily and lasts much longer over time.

Delta-8 THC and Delta 9-THC contain similarities in their molecular structure. Both contain double bonds, but D8 contains the bond on the 8th carbon chain and not on the 9th. What is THC-H?

Tetrahydrocannabihexol, or THCH, or THC-H as it is often spelled in organic chemistry, is a newly discovered cannabinoid that was recently isolated from the cannabis plant in 2020 by a team of Italian chemists. It is therefore naturally occurring in the plant, but only in very small concentrations. Thus, if you are using THCH products, the cannabinoids you are consuming were derived through a process involving high amounts of delta 8-THC. The amounts that occur naturally within the plant are far too small for extraction and mass use. It is known chemically as Δ8-THCH and is a delta-8 THC product, but a very potent form of delta 8.

If you’ve perhaps heard of THCP, THCH is similar to it in that these two have some of the longest chemical chains which translates to these two homologs of THC being some of the most, if not the most potent cannabinoid compounds currently on the market. Some estimates going around say that THCH is approximately 10-15x stronger than THC, while THCP is around 30x stronger than THC. What is THC-jd?

THCjd, like other newcomers THCH and HHC, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in cannabis although it is present in very small amounts in the plant. Due to it occurring naturally in tiny quantities, products featuring THCjd are typically produced using an isomerization process with CBD to produce it on a grand scale. Interestingly THCjd, also like THCH, has a long side-chain in its chemical structure and generally, the length of the side-chains in these cannabinoids translates to potency. Thus, THCjd is extremely strong, estimated to be around 19x stronger than regular delta-9 THC.

Often, you might hear claims like these that say “this is 5x stronger than THC”, or “this is 10x as potent as THC”, but what does this mean really? If something is 5x stronger than THC, this means that these molecules bind to the receptors they fit in in the body (the CB1 receptors but CB2 as well), five times more effectively than THC. And the more this molecule, in neuroscience called a ligand, binds to its appropriate receptor, the more time this receptor will be open or active to trigger the euphoria and effects associated with THC.

The -jd in the name THC-jd comes from the octyl group attached to the THC molecule and so THCjd is chemically known as tetrahydrocannabioctyl and perhaps even more specific, as Δ9-THCjd, because it is a delta-9 molecule. While there are other forms of THC on the market such as delta-8 or now even delta-10 THC, this is therefore a very potent form of delta-9 THC.

Due to the strength of THCjd, the potential of psychoactive effects occurring when using THCjd are very elevated comparing to consuming regular or delta-9 THC.
